Perception and Reality

Perception and Reality

Does the difference matter?

Is there a difference between perception and reality? Of course there is. The more intriguing question is: does it matter?

Technically, perception and reality are different but when it comes to decisions, especially quick ones, it doesn’t matter.

If you are perceived to be a threat, the reality is someone feels threatened. At work, if you’re perceived to be lazy and disengaged, the reality is someone believes it to be true.

With this thought in mind, it’s always good to know what your perception is amongst your peers and colleagues. Even if you don’t agree with how you’re perceived, it’s extremely valuable to be aware of how you’re perceived.

Once you begin to understand your perception, you can then decide if it’s worth changing. Sometimes the perception can be better than the reality.
