3 Reasons Why The Oscars Fail Should Help You

3 Reasons Why The Oscars Fail Should Help You

And the best picture goes to…

If you haven’t heard about it by now you will soon. Last night at the Oscars the wrong movie was awarded the coveted Best Picture award. The envelope was opened and the best picture was announced “La La Land” when in fact, the correct picture was “Moonlight”. Here are three 3 reasons why we should all be encouraged by this failure:

1.) Don’t Chase Perfection

It doesn’t matter how big the stage is, how much you rehearse or how hard you try to make something perfect there will always be mistakes. Mistakes are inevitable and no one plans to make mistakes, they just happen, otherwise they wouldn’t be called mistakes.

2.) Mistakes Can Entertain

As of this writing, 9 of the top 10 trending topics on Twitter is about the Oscars of you include the number one trending topic #SteveHarvey. Where some see this as a major embarrassment I see this as a marketing opportunity. People all over the world will wake up to find this video and to see what all the fuss is about. This is a great opportunity for the Oscars to control this narrative and put their own spin on last nights events. They could even use host Jimmy Kimmel to lighten the mood a bit.

3.) The Oscars will Happen Again

There’s been no talk (as of yet) to cancel the Oscars forever. Even after this huge mistake. But, what there will be (probably) are some process changes to make sure this doesn’t happen again. That’s they was we should handle all of failures. Failure doesn’t mean that you give up, it means that you evaluate what went wrong and improve. Thank you Oscars for the encouragement.
